From 2019 to 2022, Kayla worked with Dove and Harvard University as an Expert Advisory Panel Member to publish the Real Cost of Beauty Ideals study.

As a speaker, Kayla has been invited to share her expertise at Harvard Business School, Syracuse's Newhouse School Of Public Communications, The Jamaica Observer's Webinar Series, Create & Cultivate and more. She has also led numerous conversations as a moderator for panels and events with fellow beauty executives. Kayla can be heard on several award-winning podcasts, including Gloss Angeles, Naked Beauty, and Balanced Black Girl as well.

In 2016, Kayla won a Canadian Online Publishing Award for her work with The Huffington Post. In 2017, she was named on the "Top 100 Black Women to Watch in Canada,” list, and recognized by the CBC as one of 150 Black women making Canada better. She was nominated for the "Best Online Journalist" prize at ByBlacks.com's annual People's Choice Awards in 2019. Her work with the InStyle team was nominated for two Folio Awards in 2021. 

She now resides in New York City.
